Store News

In the past few weeks, we’ve received some great new Spring/Summer denim in the store, and it’s not your average blue pair. In fact, quite the opposite. You’ve heard of statement jewelry? Well, we have Statement Jeans!

We’re talking about the  floral, printed and bright denim that are hot and trendy right now for the season. For the daring fashionistas, this is an easy feat to embrace with their current wardrobe rotation, but not everyone can easily jump into these trends without wondering if they look like they’ve tackled their old sofa and cut them up into a pair of jeans. You too can try out these trends with confidence and gusto, which is the whole point anyway, to look good and let everyone know it.

So for today’s Art of Denim post, we will be featuring a few of these trends and how to wear and accessorize at ANY age.

20s

It’s all about exploring your fashion personality at this age. Maybe you’ve been wearing a uniform during your entire high school career, and the last thing you want to do is throw on another pair of grey slacks.

You are most likely to try on the printed or coloured (think neon and pastels) denim and as you should as these trends are right up your alley. Sky’s the limit and you’re only young once right?

Check out the popular Citizens of Humanity Mandy Floral Jean below from our own S/S 2012 lookbook. We’ve paired it with one of our Chaser rock t-shirt and completed the look with Dolce Vita nude wedges. Uber-trendy!

You can also try the pastel denim look, for a fun summer look. We’ve seen colors from peach, coral, lilac and mint green. Like a nice sorbet on a hot summer day. These jeans are so bright, there’s no hiding from them. So make sure your pair it with a cool, crisp neutral shirt and simple shoes and accessories like Victoria Justice’s outfit below.

 30s

Those in their 30s are looking for transitional pieces that you can wear to work as well as off-duty. Usually, work attire needs to be office-appropriate (please, let’s all remember the tights-are-not-pants rule) and it’s all about the quick change for the after-work dinner or drinks. All you really need to smarten up a pair of statement pants is a nice, well-fitted blazer and great pair of heels or flats. Paired with a simple blouse and a structured tote, and it’s instant office-chic! Check out Olivia Palermo trying on this trend wearing her Paige Verdugo Skinny Jeans in Tumble below.

Fast forward to friday afternoon, and it’s all about the weekend. And now it’s about double-duty with your printed denim. Easy to transition from smart casual to laid-back, all it requires is changing up your accessories. Check out Minka Kelly’s look below for an off-duty outfit as she wears the 7 For All Mankind Kauia Floral Jean. It’s not hard to pull-off that fresh, breezy look with a quick change to nude flat sandals, a light breezy top and muted tone cardigan. Add some light silver jewelry pieces and throw on your favourite pair of sunglasses.

40s

Fabulous fourties! That’s the mantra you have to have in mind when trying out the trendy denim at this age. Most of our mature female customers are intrigued by the floral and coloured denim but may have a bit more hesitation when embracing these trends. But you don’t have to be afraid or cringe at the idea of trying on these jeans as there are plenty of options to try on and make it work for your style. Check out Cameron Diaz working out her pastel pink jeans paired with a muted blazer and nude heels. It shows a more modern, mature take on the trend. Age-appropriate and au courant.

However, if you’re the woman-on-the-go running errands, grabbing lunch, picking up kids to and from school, you need something comfortable and fun. You don’t have to succumb to the dreaded “mom” jeans. Kick up the style a notch and let everyone know that just because you might not have time to brush your hair, you haven’t lost your fashion sense. Take a page from SJP as she strolls around NYC. She pairs her bright coloured jeans with a coloured top (color-blocking, also another trend to embrace this season) and paired with mary jane flats and funky bag.
